Brookhaven Quilt Studio
How to prepare your quilt for shipping and send it to me.

Begin by contacting me by phone or email so we can discuss the exact needs for your quilt,
and I can give you a no obligation quote for the total price. Once you have decided to use
my quilting service, this is how I would like for you to prepare your quilt.

Fill out three copies of the order form. E-mail or fax one copy to me,
include one copy with your quilt top, and keep a copy for yourself.

Quilt preparation:

- Please square your quilt top and back.

- Check all quilt top seams for breakage, and for seams that are not properly sewn. I suggest stay
stitch the border edge 1/4" with a straight stitch all the way around the quilt top, especially
for bias borders or to reinforce borders with many seams at the edges.

- Do not baste or pin your quilt.

- Identify the top of the quilt and backing clearly if there is a difference.

- Check the quilt backing and batting are a minimum of 5 inches wider and longer than the quilt top.

- Please do not have buttons, charms, pins, etc. on the quilt top. You can add these when I return your quilt.

- Clip loose threads on the quilt top and backing as they may show through.

- Press top and backing and press all seams open.

- Select backing fabric with the quilting thread color in mind. Choose good quality 100% cotton fabric (no bed sheets please). You may want to coordinate your backing with the front of the quilt to harmonize the overall effect. As a quilter, I prefer a busy print. A plain backing is fine, but keep in mind a different color thread for the bobbin can show through.

- Backings that are pieced must not have selvage edges in the seams. Selvage edges have a tendency to pull the fabric tighter and this will result in a puckered backing. Selvage along the outside edges is fine.

Shipping your quilt:

Fold the quilt top, backing and batting seperately.

Include a copy of the order form.

Place in a plactic bag for added protection.

I prefer you send me your quilt top by USPS.

When labeling your box to ship, do not use the word quilt on the outside.

I will inform you when your quilt arrives.
